Drug class and uses: Atorvastatin calcium is a statin, a type of drug that lowers cholesterol in the body by blocking an enzyme in the liver. Ranbaxy Laboratories Ltd. has gained approval to make generic atorvastatin calcium tablets in 10 mg, 20 mg, 40 mg and 80 mg strengths.

Previously, Pfizer was the only manufacturer of this product with US sales over $5.2 billion in 2010.

Zyprexa® and Zyprexa® Zydis® now available as generic!

Generic Name: Olanzapine
Brand Name: Zyprexa® and Zyprexa® Zydis® Orally Disintegrating Tablets

Drug Class and Uses: Olanzapine is used in the treatment of bipolar disorder and schizophrenia. Generic olanzapine tablets will be manufactured by Dr. Reddy's Laboratories Ltd. and Teva Pharmaceuticals USA. Generic olanzapine orally disintegrating tablets will be manufactured by Apotex Inc., Dr. Reddy's Laboratories Ltd., and Par Pharmaceuticals Inc. Previously, Lilly was the only manufacturer of these products with US sales over $ 2.2 billion in 2010.
